Questions From Athlete-Creators

Where do I set up my Payout information?

After you set up your Profile, you can connect your Payout account.

  1. Click your Profile icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select Settings.
  3. Click the dollar bill icon and complete required Payout information fields.
Why is it required to set up banking before publishing your Paid Tracks?

Your bank information must be connected and verified to ensure Ontheside can send your Paid Track earnings to your bank account.

How am I paid?

There are two ways you can receive payouts from Ontheside. Ontheside collects Paid Track funds from pass-holder purchases and brand sponsorship funds.

For Paid Track funds, Ontheside distributes 80% of pass-holder purchase payouts to athletes based on viewership of their Paid Track content. Funds due to you when your Paid Track content is viewed will be paid to you via your Payout account. For example, if you publish your first Paid Track and earn viewership funds in March, you will receive your first payout within the first 1-2 weeks of April.

For brand sponsorship funds, Ontheside distributes 80% of brand sponsorship proceeds to athletes based on viewership of their public content that is included in brand sponsorship portfolios. Similar to Paid Track payouts timing, if your public content is part of a brand sponsorship in March, and that content is viewed, you will receive a brand sponsorship payout within the first 1-2 weeks in April based on March viewership.

Can I update my banking details?

Yes. Once your Payout account is set up, you can return to the Payout page at any time to update your banking information. Changes take effect immediately, but it can take up to one month for payouts to be fully rerouted to your new account. For example, if you update your banking details on May 1, payouts will begin going to your new account starting June 1.

How does Ontheside account for the various sales tax collected by region?

Ontheside calculates sales tax based on where the pass-holders live, not where you live. Any applicable sales tax, such as US sales tax, VAT, GST, HST, etc., is added separately as a line item for the pass-holder to pay and does not impact your earnings.

Why do you collect a W-8 or W-9?

Ontheside is required to report income for tax purposes. We may collect a W-8 form (outside of the US) or a W-9 form (within the US) from you depending on where you live. Each country has its own income reporting threshold, so we'll ask you for the appropriate form once you've reached the respective income threshold in your region. For example, if the income threshold in the US is $2,500 USD, and you are an athlete-creator in the US, we will request a W-9 after you earn $2,500. You can read more information on taxes here.

Do I need to report my income?

For all income tax-related questions, please work with your tax advisor. Please note that Ontheside is required to report income for tax purposes when it exceeds a certain threshold. For more information, please refer to the question above.
